JOB SUMMARY

An Intern’s primary objective at Mission Produce is to foster relationships with employees and gain hands-on experience in the produce industry. Join us for a 12-week paid summer internship position that offers the opportunity to potentially explore various departments, including:

Interns will not only gain experience in their respective fields, but they will also design Mission’s booth at the Ventura County fair and present an innovative capstone "field-to-fork" project.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Domestic Sales

  • Gain an understanding of the avocado market as it relates to supply, sourcing, quality, and pricing.
  • Understand how inventory levels can impact sourcing efforts.
  • Provide attentive support to key salespeople, including answering phones, maintaining invoicing records, and inputting orders.
  • Support order forecasting, customer invoicing, and iTrade.

Quality Assurance

  • Work in the packing facility to learn the grading of fruit.
  • Develop an understanding of quality control.
  • Learn and update customer specifications and training.
  • Perform fruit inspections in the cooler and on the shipping docks.

Operations

  • Track production efficiencies and creating reports based on findings.
  • Evaluate process improvements throughout the packing facility.
  • Learn all aspects of Mission Produce’s Operations Department.
  • Support the Operations Department with updating standard operations procedures (SOPs).

Sales Analytics

  • Update sales records and reports accurately.
  • Develop a deep understanding of how big data and analytics drive action and business results.
  • Learn how to forecast and plan for customer demand.
  • Analyze reports and trends to make sales planning decisions.

Supply Chain

  • Support in the management of inventory at the various distribution centers.
  • Assist with transfer entries and age management of avocados and/or mangos.
  • Develop and run reports for team members as requested.
  • Troubleshoot inventory-related issues throughout the supply chain and recommend various courses.

Sourcing

  • Update the sourcing team by consolidating, analyzing, and forwarding daily action summaries.
  • Conduct data entry and coordinate purchase orders.
  • Develop an understanding of size curves, countries of origin, pricing, field-truck yields, etc.
  • Assist in preparing sourcing budgets and reports.

Transportations/Logistics

  • Update estimated time of arrivals (ETAs) for arrivals and carrier files.
  • Build transportation-related reports.
  • Track, report, and organize items related to the Department of Transportation.
  • Communicate with Sales/Inventory/Facility Managers and carriers as needed on a variety of information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • In pursuant of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in related field.
  • Is a sophomore, junior or senior college student.
  • Eligible to work in the United States prior to start date.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Eager to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly analytical, autonomous and driven by results.
  • Effective communicator who enjoys presenting to large groups of people.
  • Willing to work in cold conditions from 38°F to 50°F and hot conditions, if working in the packing facility.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.

Range: $19.90 - $24.25
